NisiPilot → Beta

Less rework starts before the handoff.

I reframed curriculum tooling as focused guidance inside the author’s writing flow, reducing rework and helping move a resisted proposal into beta.

My role
PRINCIPAL PRODUCT DESIGNER · INFINITAS LEARNING · SELF-INITIATED
Scope
Curriculum authoring and delivery at Infinitas Learning; a self-initiated initiative.
Key decision
Move structural guidance into the writing flow while keeping uncertain pedagogical decisions with the author.

Context

A complete map can still hide a broken learning sequence.

An educational publisher, decades of curriculum, and multiple markets. The source of truth held hierarchies, inherited blanks, and multiline objectives. Authors still needed a natural way to write.

I built the mapping view and found the limit of that answer: making the structure visible still left people responsible for interpreting all of it. The product needed a more useful role.

Insight

Completeness does not prove learning integrity.

The question became whether learning could follow the structure. A concept introduced too late, a broken dependency, or an incoherent sequence can be detected before a student encounters it.

I reframed Nisi around specific, actionable judgments. Ambiguous objectives and valid alternative teaching paths leave the decision with the author.

DETECT

A concrete failure.

Identify a structural problem that can be explained and acted on.

INTERVENE

At the point of authorship.

Place the guidance beside the issue while the author can still resolve it.

ABSTAIN

When judgment is uncertain.

Leave room for ambiguity, alternative teaching paths, and human expertise.

Decisions

The interface asks less. The judgment moves beside the text.

Authors write naturally. When structure breaks, one mark appears beside the issue: one explanation, one possible fix. The author keeps the decision.

I defined specific failure classes and clear limits for intervention. Ambiguous objectives, valid alternative teaching paths, and conflicting standards remain matters for human judgment.

Impact

Evidence changed what the organization was willing to try.

Pitch, resistance, alpha, evidence, beta. The reported rework reduction helped secure the beta. Authors outside the initial program asked to join.

The organizational opportunity is to move preventable correction upstream, leaving editorial expertise more room for pedagogical judgment.

What changed, and where

Impact from authorship to delivery

The pilot and beta produced operational evidence. That evidence changed what the organization was willing to try.

01

Authors & editors

Early pilot evidence

Fewer issues crossed the handoff.

  • The early pilot reported more than 50% less rework after author handoff.
  • Specific guidance appears during writing, while the author can still act on the issue.
02

Delivery

Reported beta result

The beta reported a shorter delivery cycle.

  • Delivery time was 16% shorter in beta.
  • The work placed preventable correction earlier in content production.
03

Organization

Observed progression and demand

Evidence turned a resisted proposal into a beta.

  • Pilot evidence helped secure the beta.
  • Authors outside the initial program asked to join.

Broader rollout and student learning outcomes have not yet been measured. Freeing editorial capacity for pedagogical judgment remains an opportunity to validate.
